Common Questions
“SimuLook won’t connect to my camera”
Camera access currently requires a supported Apple device, a USB cable, and a compatible Fujifilm USB mode. Turn the camera on before tapping Connect. If you want to read or write custom recipe slots, move the camera away from CARD READER mode; if you want to browse photos on its card, use CARD READER mode. Slot decoding and writing are currently calibrated only for the X100VI. Other bodies can still be identified, but SimuLook leaves unverified settings blank rather than guessing.
If a connected camera was just used by another app or session, close that app, wait a moment, and try again. If the camera still does not appear, disconnect the cable, power-cycle the camera, reconnect it, and retry.
“Can SimuLook change my camera?”
Reading the active slot or a photo never changes the camera. Reading all seven slots temporarily moves the slot selector and restores the original slot on every exit path. Writing happens only from Write to C…, after you choose a recipe and confirm that the destination slot will be replaced. SimuLook writes only fields with verified encodings, reads every written value back, and names anything skipped or mismatched.
“Can I publish anonymously?”
No — published recipes show your username (the one you set during sign-up or in Settings). You can use any username you like; we don’t require a real name.
“How do I delete my account?”
- iOS: Profile tab → ••• menu → Delete Account
- macOS: Settings → Account → Delete Account
You’ll be asked to type DELETE to confirm. Everything you published is permanently removed.
“How do I report inappropriate content?”
Open the recipe or comment → ••• menu → Report. Pick a reason. Our moderators review reports manually; serious violations get the content removed and the offender warned or blocked.
“How do I block a user?”
From any of their recipes: ••• menu → Block this user. From their profile: the Block button below Follow. Their recipes and comments will be hidden from your view. They can’t tell you’ve blocked them.
“My photo upload failed mid-way through publishing”
Tap Retry on the alert. SimuLook is resumable — the recipe you started publishing still exists with the photos that did upload; Retry picks up where it left off without creating a duplicate.
“Where are my offline-only recipes?”
Recipes you create without publishing live on your device only and survive across launches. They never go to our servers. If you uninstall the app, those local recipes are gone — export them as JSON first if you want to keep them.
